The Valley of a 1000 Hills forms around the majestic valley created by the Mngeni River and it’s tributaries. A magnificent gorge between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, the Valley of 1 000 Hills is about more than its spectacular greenery and the clear blue of the African sky.
The Valley of 1000 Hills is a place where the true and untainted beauty of Africa is celebrated in its scenery, animals, culture, history, and the vibe that infuses this part of KwaZulu-Natal. The Valley of 1000 Hills is situated between the massive urban metropolis of Durban and the capital city of the province, Pietermaritzburg. The valley is the meeting point of the Umgeni and Msunduzi rivers, making it a place of unrivalled natural beauty. The Umgeni flows all the way from the mammoth Drakensberg to the warm waters of the Indian Ocean.
This region is also famous for its deep and complex culture and history. The province is the homeland of powerful Zulu tribes and villages.

We can cater for up to 10 people on our Land Cruiser Game Viewing Vehicle on this experience through Shongweni🇿🇦
We are able to host you at any time during the day that best suits you.
We leave from an Upper Highway venue (Restaurant/Pub) of your choice. We will then 4×4 ⛰〽️🚜 up to the old Fire Look Out Tower👀🔥and Ntabankulu trigonometric beacon📍which will be our first stop for any catering and refreshments. We will then 4×4 down to Delville Wood train station🚉 where we cross over to go into a service tunnel🚇 through to Kirk Falls for our second stop and then we will return back to where your vehicles are parked.
Valley of 1000 Hills 4️⃣✖️4️⃣Experience (6 hours):
Join us on one of our tours through this spectacular playground. Get to see all the views as we drop down past iSithumba Mountain, over Marion Marion Foley Bridge (The half way point in the Iconic Dusi Canoe Marathon) We stop for a refreshment and some pictures at the incredible Slide rapid just below the confluence of the Dusi and Umgeni rivers.
We then climb to the top of the Valley of 1000 Hills enjoying all the sights and smells the Valley has to offer. The abundance bird life as the Yellow-billed kite’s sore the thermals just above us. From the top you will look over both Nagle and Inanda Dams. We then go and stop at the splendid Toleni Falls.
We then drive down to the mighty Mqeku River that we cross 9 times on our way to Sibusiso Shangase’s picturesque Mqeku River Picnic Site.
At the picnic site you can chose to bring in Caterer’s to have your lunch waiting for you on arrival or choose to Braai or Picnic. At the picnic site Sibusiso offers swimming and tubing in the river as well as Hiking tours.
Depending on your requirements we can offer Shebeen tours or cultural visits. The Valley is the perfect location to give you a true traditional South African Experience.
